October 29, 2009 What a difference a year makes. After starting off 0-3 last season, the Dollarway Cardinals dominated the 8-4A conference, and marched into War Memorial Stadium in December to play for the Class 4A State Championship.Once they passed through the gates of the stadium, the losses started again, as the Shiloh Christian Saints defeated them by a score of 42-18. Moving forward to the 2009 football season, we have two weeks left to play in the regular season, and the Cardinals are still yet to get back into the win column. They have two games remaining, against Lake Village Lakeside, and Star City. With the way the season has gone down, it has gotten to several players, but they are not giving up. "I don't know what all is wrong with us." said one player who wished not to be named. "We get in a game, and things just do not go right for us. It is never ending, like we just can't get over the hump. It has really shocked me, because I know that we are a better team than what we have shown." Another player, who also wished to remained anonymous gave his thoughts on the season as well. "We really don't have any coaches." said the player. "It is just Coach Lee and Coach Kidd, that is really all we have. We didn't go to any camps before the season and we didn't play any scrimmage game, we just went out there and played CAC. We lost that game, and just have not bounced back." The same player had a few other thoughts as well. "Everyone is in shock at how we have gone from a team who played for a State Championship last year, to a win-less team." said the player. "I'm not trying to knock Coach Lee, because he is a good coach, but he needs to be tougher on all of us. We have kids who quit the team for a couple of days, then come back, and he lets them play. I really think he needs to be tougher on us. I really think that has a lot to do with how we have performed this season." Though the player had those thoughts, he also wanted to send out a challenge to his teammates. "We only have two games left." said the player. "We obviously are not going to the playoffs, but I want to challenge my teammates to step up, and lets win these last two games. Lets end the season on a positive note and have something to build on for next season." Though we do not know what all has caused the Cardinals to fall off this season like they have, we just wanted to share what some players on the team are thinking. We gave them strict confidence that their identities would remain anonymous. We do with the Cardinals the best of luck with the remainder of their season.
