November 12, 2009We have been following the situation regarding the Lamar football team all week since we received information that they would be ineligible for the 2009 playoffs.
On Tuesday, a subcommittee at the Arkansas Activities Association upheld Executive Director Lance Taylor's decision to force Lamar to forfeit five conference victories due to use of an ineligible player.
The five loses thus eliminated the Warriors from playoff contention, and allowed the Atkins Red Devils to move into the playoffs due to the forfeiture.
Arkansas Activities Association Executive Director Lance Taylor spoke briefly with ArkansasVarsity.com publisher Luke Matheson about the situation, and the AAA subcommittees decision on Tuesday.
"We had seven board members present for the meeting [Tuesday] morning." said Taylor. "After going over everything, the appeal was denied, and Lamar will be ineligible for post season play."

After Tuesday's decision, the Lamar athletic department requested that the appeal process go before independent judge.
The process did go before circuit court judge Gordon McCain on Thursday evening, with Judge McCain ruling that in favor of Lamar, and an injunction has been granted.
Due to the judgment, The Arkansas Activities Association has suspended the Class 3A Playoffs until further notice.
We received the following email from the Arkansas Activities Association late Thursday evening:
